Work to begin on new Samba headquarters

SAUDI ARABIA: Local firm El Seif Engineering & Contracting has won the estimated SR 900 million ($240 million) contract to build the new headquarters of high-profile Saudi bank Samba at the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) taking shape on the outskirts of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The project’s backers say they have taken into account everything from the principles of Islamic mathematics to the traditional structures of the region in order to shape the design of the new structure.
The heart of the bank is a bright vertical courtyard that is open to its staff and customers. The harnessing of solar energy, combined with a broad range of other sustainable initiatives that address energy, water, indoor environmental quality and material use will see the building target a platinum sustainability rating on the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) scale.
The 28-month project will involve the construction of a 39-floor tower with three basement floors.
The project is just one of a series of towers planned for KAFD. The development will also house the headquarters of the Capital Market Authority and the Saudi Arabian Stock Exchange.
Other Saudi financial institutions are planning to build high-rise towers at KAFD including Alinma Bank, Al-Rajhi Bank, and the Public Investment Fund.
Located on a 1.6 million sq m site north of Riyadh, the KAFD will offer commercial and residential districts along with hospitality, retail and recreational facilities.
KAFD is being developed by Rayadah Investment Company (RIC), which is the investment arm of the state-owned Public Pension Agency.
